Individual extensions for Administration and Office staff can be found on the Faculty & Staff page. The school telephone is a business telephone and is to be used by students only in case of emergency. Please have a clear understanding with your child that transportation home on rainy days, going home with playmates, or materials needed at school are not emergencies and should be taken care of before the school day begins. If you are new to the area or your child is entering school for the first time, it is necessary to register your child for school once you have determined that your address is within the Clay Springs Elementary district. Click on this link to find the assigned public schools for your address. WITHDRAWALS: If a student leaves Clay Springs during the school year, the parent or guardian should notify the school office so that records can be transferred to the new school. All books must be returned before withdrawing. Clay Springs Elementary School Hours Please note that we have early dismissal on Wednesdays!
It is extremely important that your child attends school every day and is on time. Children may be dropped off any time after 8:05 a.m. The first bell is at 8:20, and your child is tardy if they are not in their room seated and ready for the day by 8:30 a.m. Any child who gets to the classroom during or after the 8:30 bell will need to go to the cafeteria for a tardy slip. Each child needs to be in school every day for daily instruction and learning. Excessive tardiness requires a plan to be developed by the parent, child and Principal. If your child will not be in school, you will need to follow up with a note in writing the day your child returns to school from his/her absence. It is the child's responsibility to get the note to the teacher, who will in turn get it to the attendance office. You only have three days from the time your child returns to get the absence note turned in. These steps are extremely important to follow to ensure your child's absences are recorded properly. If any child reaches 10 unexcused absences, the Social Worker will be automatically notified of truancy and will be making a visit to your home. If and when a child receives 15 unexcused absences, it automatically goes to the State Attorney's office for truancy. Thank you for your help and cooperation in your child's education by making sure they are here and on time, ready to learn and have a wonderful experience every day. For the safety of our students, ALL VISITORS, PARENTS INCLUDED, MUST REPORT TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE AND RECEIVE A VISITOR BADGE BEFORE GOING TO ANY LOCATION ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. Parents are welcome and encouraged to visit the school. Arrangements for classroom visits ot conferences must be made in advance. Students are not permitted to bring other students to the school to visit. PETS ON CAMPUS: No dogs or other pets are allowed on campus unless arrangements have been made in advance for a classroom visit. Children may be afraid or have severe allergies to animals. If you are walking to school with your dog, plan to drop off and meet your child outside the gate. Information coming soon! Our extended day program is a quality child care program at a very reasonable cost. The program is fee-supported, and according to state law, a balance must be maintained at all times in order to participate. Parents must read and sign the bottom of the program registration form, which includes policies and procedures. To inquire about registration (based on availability), call the school office at 407-884-2275 and then select option 6, or dial extension 2230. If the extended day program is unable to accomodate your children, several local day care facilities may be available to drop off and pick up your children to/from the Clay Springs campus. NOTE: Providing this list is not an endorsement by Clay Springs Elementary School or its staff - it is provided as a resource to help you contact and choose an appropriate facility for your children. Report Cards & Parent-Teacher Conferences Student progress is reported to parents in a mid-term report five weeks into each grading period, and a report card at the end of each nine-week period. Regular class newsletters, parent conferences, phone calls, mail and school visits are also used to communicate the progress of students. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: Parents are encouraged to contact their child's teacher with questions or concerns. Conferences or visits must be arranged in advance. Parents may send a note or leave a voice mail message by calling 407-884-2275, then dialing the appropriate voice mail extension. (Please see the Faculty & Staff page for a list of all voice mail extensions.) The teacher will then call the parent to set up an appointment. For safety and to protect instructional time, parents may nor "drop in" on classes. The office staff can assist in reaching the teachers. Roseann Cirilo staffs the clinic at Clay Springs Elementary School. She can be reached by email at pradocr@ocps.net or at extension 2229. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Parents and friends of the school can help in the instructional program through the ADDitions Volunteer Program. We welcome your services and encourage you to become involved. Any person who wishes to volunteer at Clay Springs must complete an ADDitions application for security purposes. Please visit or call the school office and ask for Dee Coffie or Melanie Brown, our ADDitions volunteer coordinators, extension 2221. To complete an ADDitions application or to go on field trips please go to volunteer.ocps.net to complete the online application. Some important reminders regarding ADDitions: - ADDitions volunteers work under the instructional
leadership of a teacher or other staff member. The Orange County School Board has adopted the Code of Student Conduct to be used as a standard for students in all schools. Each student will receive a copy the first week of school. The code explains the rules students must follow and explains what will happen if rules are not followed. 2007-2008 Orange County Code of Student Conduct The Code of Student Conduct is in portable document format (PDF). To download a free Adobe Acrobat Reader, click the icon below: The dress and grooming of Orange County Public Schools students shall contribute to the health and safety of the individual, promote a positive educational environment and not disrupt the educational activities and processes of the school. These minimum standards of dress and grooming apply to all students (K-12) in the public schools of Orange County, unless a specific exemption is granted by the principal. Any request for an exemption shall be made to the principal. A. Clothes shall be worn as they are designed
suspenders over the shoulders, pants secured at the waist, belts buckled,
no underwear as outerwear, no underwear exposed.
I. Hemlines of shorts, dresses, skirts and skorts
shall be no shorter than mid-thigh.
Individual schools are expected to use the district dress and grooming guidelines as minimum standards but are encouraged to extend their own standards to meet the uniqueness of their school community. An individual school's dress code may already include these standards and may be implemented at the beginning of this school year. NOTE: Please label jackets and sweaters, as they are often misplaced. Unclaimed, unlabeled items are donated to charity at the end of each month.
