Scholastic Book Fair
The Media Center holds two Book Fairs each school year—fall and spring. Students and parents may purchase books from the Scholastic Book Fair during school and in the evening. Proceeds from the Book Fair are used to purchase additional books and Reading Counts quizzes for the school.

Reading Counts
Reading Counts is a reading comprehension/incentive program for students in grades 1 through 5. Students read a book on their level from the Reading Counts list; then take a comprehension quiz on the computer. Students in grades 2-5 are required to earn a set number of points each nine weeks which will be part of their reading grade. Prizes are earned based on the number of points students accumulate.

What are the requirements? Students in grades 2 – 5 are required to earn a set number of points each nine weeks which will be part of their reading grade.Students will receive a percentage score for the number of points earned each nine weeks based on the total number of points required. For example, if 2nd or 3rd grade students earn 12 out of 15 required points the percentage grade would be 80. If 4th grade students earn 15 out of 20 required points, the percentage grade would be 75. If 5th grade students earn 25 out of 30 required points the percentage grade would be 83. This Reading Counts grade will beaveraged in with all other reading grades for the nine weeks to determine the overall Reading grade on the report card.

What can parents do to help? Read with your child. Read to your child. Listen to your child read to you. Ask your child to tell you about the characters, setting, plot, and specific details of the book. The Media Center and the Apopka branch of the Orange County Public Library have a copy of the books that are part of Reading Counts. You may view the list in PDF, sorted below by author, lexile, reading level and points:

Lectura Cuenta (Reading Counts)
